If you’re looking for a baby bouncer, then it’s hard to go wrong with the ergonomic traditional BabyBjorn. I wrote this BabyBjorn bouncer review after eight months of use and for me, it’s the best out there. Keep reading to find out all the nice features and a couple of cons (well nothing’s perfect in this world).

One of the most excellent benefits of having a bouncer at home is that it will keep your little one busy and happy.
After the first couple of weeks, your new baby will want to start inspecting the world around him. An ergonomic bouncer is perfect for this. You can safely let newborn babies lie in it and watch the hassle around them.
When your baby gets stronger, then a traditional bouncer helps to develop motor skills. Your infant triggers the rocking, and after six months, you will be surprised how fast he can bounce.
The best bouncers are lightweight and easy to fold. This means that you can easily take them with you to a friends’ house or to a restaurant to keep your little one busy while you’re taking some time for yourself.

Baby Bjorn Bouncer Bliss & Balance Soft
BabyBjörn makes standard bouncers- the movement is triggered by you or by your baby. This means that your baby can develop his or her motor skills and you’re not constantly running out of batteries.
It may come as a surprise to you, but BabyBjörn is currently selling two bouncer models. I was unable to find a model name on my bouncer so you can understand my confusion.
At the moment, BabyBjörn sells Balance Bliss and older, almost identical Bouncer Baby Balance Soft.
| The only real difference between the models lies in the color of the frame and the fabric. The BabyBjörn bouncer Balance Soft has a black frame, and the seat is made of super soft cotton/jersey. Bouncer Bliss, on the other hand, has a grey frame and uses 3D Jersey. This said, you can buy extra covers for both of them and choose between other fabrics that I’ve covered in the following paragraphs. |
So if you happen to find an older model with a smaller price tag, you can safely buy it as they haven’t made any significant changes.

Ergonomic Design & Modern Look
The sleek, stylish features make it a perfect bouncer for a modern home. You can choose between many colors and materials (discussed later in detail) so you can find the perfect match for your nursery.
Baby Bjorn bouncer has an ergonomic design so that it supports your baby’s back, neck, and head. This means that it’s ideal from birth and you can safely let your baby lie in it (the bouncer should be in the lowest position).l
You can choose between three different seating positions when it’s used for bouncing. The right level depends on how much your baby weighs. The manufacturer has labeled the three positions as follows:
Highest position: “Play” up to 20lb (9 kg)
Medium position: “Rest” up to 20lb (9 kg)
Lowest position: “Sleep” up to 15.5lb (7 kg)
In Contrast to Some Other Bouncers, You can also use it as a Toddler Chair
It’s worth pointing out that BabyBjorn is one of the most beloved baby bouncers because you can also turn this into a toddler chair. Just turn the fabric seat around when it’s in the upright position. This lets your child use it until she or he is about 2 years old (or weighs more than 29lb).
Lightweight & Easy to Fold
BabyBjorn bouncer Bliss is effortless to hide if you’re not using it. This bouncer folds completely flat (the folded dimensions are 35,4 x 15,4 x 4,1 inches) and weighs only 4.6lb (2kg). This means that it’s easy to slide under the bed or raise on the cupboard.
The manufacturer states that the measures in the transport mode are 4.5 x 35 x 15.5 in/11 x 89 x 39 cm. That said, after many months of use the fabric may stretch or some bending may occur. In the picture, you can see the exact measures of a used BabyBjorn bouncer- 4,1 x 35,4 x 15,4 inches. The banana is just for comparison…
Safe for Your Baby
Babybjorn Bouncer meets the safety standards in the US (ASTM F2167) and Europe (EN12790:2009). It also carries a JPMA mark, and the fabrics are Oeko Tex certified.
This makes it one of the safest bouncers out there. It doesn’t protect from carelessness though.
Don’t forget to use the restraints and always make sure that the location is safe for your bouncer.
Many parents have been angry because BabyBjörn bouncers now have an ugly warning label. It’s the result of the new US safety standard. To be compliant, the bouncer has to have a label on the front of the bouncer seat near the baby’s head and shoulders.
Four Different Fabrics
Both Babybjorn bouncers (Bliss and Soft) are available all together in four different fabrics.
You can choose between cotton, mesh, or 3D Jersey (80% polyester, 16 cotton, and 4% elastane) in the case of Bliss. The Balance Soft features a cotton jersey seat cover instead of 3D Jersey, but you can still also decide to go with a cotton seat or mesh.
The material is easy to remove and is machine-washable.
All four fabrics are child-friendly because they meet the Oeko-Tex Class standards.

Babybjorn Bouncer Mesh vs Cotton
The mesh is made of polyester, and this makes it easy to clean. Babybjorn has made the fabric breathable, but it isn’t as soft as cotton.
Cotton is softer than the mesh. It’s also machine-washable so you should be able to clean it easily. That said, cotton tends to shrink when soaked in hot water, so it’s imperative to follow the cleaning instructions.
Many parents have complained that it’s hard to get the fabric back in place after washing. We have not had such problems (using mesh), so it’s worth checking that you are following the washing instructions. Cotton tends to shrink when soaked in hot water. The material should be machine washed in warm (104F /40°C ) water and not tumbled dry.

Toy Bar
You can choose between three different toy bars. For some reason, “Googly eyes” has been a more popular choice. Our baby also liked it and still sometimes uses this toy bar as a teether.
Extra Seat
Buying an extra seat for your bouncer is possible. You can use the same model for both Bouncer Bliss and Soft.
It’s a great option if you don’t like the current color or you’ve inherited someone’s old Babybjorn bouncer and wish to exchange the fabric. Word of warning though, this accessory is quite expensive.
Transport Bag
The transport bag is a relatively new accessory that lets you conveniently carry or store your Babybjorn bouncer. It fits both of them. The bag is perfect if you want to make sure that it stays clean while traveling or packing it for storage.
Alternative
Fisher-Price Deluxe Bouncer (check the latest price on Amazon) is a nice bouncy chair for around half of the price of the BabyBjörn. You can switch on calming vibrations, and the bouncer toy is included in the package. That said, it weighs a little more than the BabyBjorn (9lb vs 4.6lb).
The Fisher-Price bouncer is a good alternative if the ease of transport isn’t that important to you and you wish to save some money.
BabyBjorn Review: CONS
For me, it’s the best baby bouncer out there, but there can be some cons.
Expensive
The high price tag is the most obvious con, but you finally get a product that is not made in China and entirely of plastic. Don’t get me wrong here. There’s nothing wrong with Chinese goods, but it’s nice to have some variety in life.
BabyBjörn was founded in 1961 by Björn Jakobson, and you can still see „made in Sweden“ on their bouncers. And the quality has stayed good, multiple kids can still use it.
Can’t Use it as Long as You’d Like
It’s also worth noting that you probably can’t use any bouncer for very long time. Most children can sit by the age of 9 months and it may be hard to keep them in a bouncer after that.
Baby May get Bored
All babies are different. Some infants prefer to get more stimulation, and this simple bouncer may become boring for them. This means that you may be better off with a swing.
My Personal Experience With Babybjorn Bouncer Bliss
“I was able to use our Bliss for 8 months. Then our baby learned to sit and refused to stay in the bouncer any longer.
I can honestly say that it’s one of the best baby products we bought for our nursery. It’s also one of the few that I’m not planning to give away.
During the first seven months, this BabyBjorn bouncer was the only place where our kid happily hanged out because he was able to see his parents.
We travel a lot by car and so I really appreciated this easy-to-fold lightweight bouncer.
One thing I noticed is that although the lowest position is labeled “sleep,” it sits quite high. If our baby fell asleep in the bouncer, we always moved him to a crib.”
Update: After the arrival of our second child, we also used it a lot. Our baby loved this BabyBjorn bouncer. She enjoyed how easily the baby’s own movements triggered the bouncing. And it truly is well made as the bouncy chair still looks excellent. However, I’d probably buy a new seat cover because the colors aren’t that bright after two years of use (no tears, though).

The traditional ergonomic BabyBjorn bouncer is one of the best out there with hundreds of positive reviews. It’s pretty expensive, but you get a safe, easy-to-transport bouncer. And it folds flat for easy storage. Additionally, don’t forget that the quality is still superb:)
